Case Study - Concept and Creation of the Audiovisual Museography for the Grand-Saint-Bernard Museum

During the renovation of the Grand-Saint-Bernard Hospice, Pierre-Armand Dussex was commissioned to design and produce a series of audiovisual installations to convey the history and spirit of this iconic site. The year-long project required close collaboration with journalists, cameramen, editors, graphic designers, translators, 3D animators, programmers, and museographers.

Overview

The audiovisual concept developed for the Grand-Saint-Bernard Museum aimed to immerse visitors in the thousand-year-old legacy of hospitality and spiritual care provided at the hospice. Located at an altitude of 2,400 meters in the heart of the Alps, the hospice has long been a symbolic and physical refuge for travelers and pilgrims crossing the mountain pass.

The museographic work was envisioned as an emotional and historical journey. A 19-minute documentary film, A Thousand Years of Hospitality, was produced to retrace the evolution of this extraordinary place. In addition, a shorter 5-minute video, The Intuition of Saint Bernard, explores the vision and legacy of the saint behind the institution.

An interactive terminal featuring 32 video capsules translated into four languages was installed, offering in-depth insights into the daily life, traditions, and history of the hospice. The storytelling was further enriched by the production of 3D animations, allowing visitors to visualize the site’s development across centuries.

This multimedia strategy reinforces the identity of the hospice as a sacred and welcoming space, bridging past and present through immersive narrative and audiovisual innovation.
