Overview

At its opening in 2012, the committee of the Valaisan Museum of the Bisses aimed to offer high-quality exhibitions using storytelling and video. Located in a former village building in the Swiss Alps, the design first focused on creating immersive sound and visual atmospheres.

To achieve this, we recorded the sound of water flowing through various channels and projected continuous images of alpine landscapes and some of the most iconic bisses. We also produced a documentary series illustrating how mountain irrigation was traditionally practiced.

To showcase the complexity of the bisses network across the entire canton of Valais, we developed an interactive projection system that maps the extensive irrigation infrastructure in an engaging and educational format.

What we did

  • 16-part video series: The Memory of Gestures — documentary-style interviews and footage

  • Infographic videos on the use and distribution of water

  • Video mapping projections on 3D models

  • Ambient soundscapes and sound scenes

  • Visual atmosphere projections to immerse visitors in alpine environments

Key deliverables

The bisses are a living heritage that deserves to be known by a wider audience.
